Welcome to my blog where I  document our adventures, parenting, lifestyle and food. Hope you enjoy!

eating clean & the start of couch to 5k

We try & eat pretty healthy, but I wanted to step it up a notch this summer.  Truth be told, I still have some baby weight that I want to drop and I just want to feel better!  Since having Oliver, I always feel a little sluggish & I have been realizing that I am using most of my time to take care of Ollie, but not myself.  Now, don't get me wrong, taking care of Oliver is my favorite thing but I find myself relying on coffee as a pick me up and just one is never enough.  I have been researching on what exactly eating clean means & this particular website (found here) is a great one if you are just starting the search.
Eating clean to me is eating natural, whole foods.  The least processed & least amount of ingredients, the better.  I hate buying products which have ingredients I cannot even pronounce.  All this to say, is that I have decided to slowly change my lifestyle on the way I view food.  Of course, I am not perfect & will probably not always eat clean, but I am open to changing my lifestyle for the better!  Also, I am in NO way a health expert!  Periodically, I will post recipes that are not only healthy, but tasty!  Here is what I ate yesterday (minus the iced coffee & handful of peanut butter m&m's...baby steps).  And remember to drink LOTS of water!  :)

gluten free oatmeal (made with water)
splash of unsweetened coconut milk
handful of blueberries
tablespoon of sunflower seeds
drizzle of agave

2 cups spinach & romain mix
hardboiled egg
2 cherry tomatoes
shredded carrots
1/4 avocado
1/4 cup baked chicken
fresh black pepper

balsamic vinegar
olive oil
3-4 garlic cloves, minced
Greek seasoning
1-2 freshly squeezed limes

(I just eyeball how much ingredients to use)

decaf green tea with lemon
1 apple

(Matt said my dinner didn't seem appealing, but I enjoyed it!)

1 scrambled egg
grilled asparagus
1/4 avocado

On another note, I have decided to do the couch to 5k program.  I found this website that has a printable program (found here).  Matt has been so sweet and he said that he will do it with me!  It always helps to have someone by your side to help push you along!  I will track my progress with you guys & let you know how I am doing with both the eating clean & couch to 5k!
Here is what we did yesterday:

5 minute brisk warm-up (we just walked really fast)
60 second jog
90 second walk
& repeat for 20 minutes
